Today, @scottwesterfeld tweeted the following: A useful formulation from yesterday’s NY Times Book Review: “Attraction + Obstacles = Excitement!” (p. 11)

And it’s so true. I was thinking about it last night, actually. I mean, it’s not the hardest formula to come up with. Why do you think Romeo and Juliet has survived all these years? Why do you think that Twilight was so popular? The controversy, the taboo, it makes it more exciting. That might be why I still like the Twilight series (sans Breaking Dawn) and Hikaru/Kaoru twincest and Draco/Hermione. Because these three couples have to sneak around and are locked away in their own little world of understanding. Or something more understandable.

Anyway. Just wanted to put that out there.
